DeLonghi GM6000 Gelato Maker with Self-Refrigerating Compressor
The DeLonghi is one of my all-time favorite gelato makers. For its low price, this item offers an all-in-one gelato making unit that not only makes your gelato, but freezes and keeps it until you are ready to serve it. This can be vital to the quality of your gelato, since most commercial freezers are set too low in temperature and turn most gelato into a solid chunk of ice. Likewise, the DeLonghi GM6000 has a transparent lid that allows you to see your gelato in the making.
Key Product Features include:
- A built-in freezer. Many cheaper gelato makers require the user freeze the mixing bowl for up to 24 hours before making a batch of gelato. This impedes making gelato on the spot and requires that the user pre-plan a gelato batch the day before. With the DeLonghi GM6000, the freezer is actually part of the machine, thanks to its self-refrigerating compressor.
- 30 minute wait time. The GM6000 takes as little as 30 minutes to churn out and prepare ready-to-eat gelato.
- 35 lb. total weight. The GM6000 measures12 4/5" x 15 4/5" x 9 3/5", and its total weight 35 lbs.
- Airtight and transparent lid. Think of what happens when you leave an open box of ice cream in your freezer: the air mixes in with the ice cream, forming water crystals on its surface and drying out the ice cream in the process. The same thing happens to gelato because air will oxidize it, thus ruining its taste and texture. The DeLonghi GM6000 contains a transparent lid that is actually airtight, sealing off the bowl so that the proper temperature and humidity conditions are maintained.
- Book of recipes. The DeLonghi GM6000 comes with a recipe book that contains 50 recipes for creating many different gelato and sorbetto flavors.
- Ecologically sound refrigerant. The DeLonghi GM6000 is equipped with R134a, which is a more ecologically sound and efficient refrigerant.
- Full paddle. The GM6000 comes with a full plastic paddle that mixes gelato completely from top to bottom, ensuring consistent texture.
- Large bowl capacity. The stainless steel bowl inside the DeLonghi GM6000 is of 1.25 quart capacity, which is quite big for the amount of gelato that you can make at a single time.
- Removeable bowl. Not all gelato makers have removeable parts, which can make them a real hassle to clean. Not so with the DeLonghi GM6000: its lid, stainless steel bowl and paddle are removeable.
- Dishwasher-safe components. The DeLonghi GM6000 lid, bowl and paddle are all dishwasher-safe.
- Low noise level. The noise level on the DeLonghi GM6000 is about that of a low speed standing mixer, which is reasonably low for a gelato maker.
Are there any disadvantages to the DeLonghi GM6000? The only one that has come up is size: for large families or parties, the 1.25 quart capacity bowl inside of this gelato machine may not serve up enough gelato for everyone. Recall that one quart contains 32 ounces; therefore, a 1.25 quart bowl contains 40 ounces of gelato. If family members or guests each get a cup of gelato to eat, that results in only 5 individuals being served per batch.
